Book the Left Side, and Here's Why That's Not Obvious
The Nilgiri Mountain Railway runs from Mettupalayam to Ooty, a distance of 46 kilometres that takes roughly five hours. On that climb, the valley views open almost entirely on the left side of the train when you are travelling uphill toward Ooty. The right side faces the hill face for much of the journey, rock walls, embankments, and dense canopy with no real depth to look into.
