A fight-day illness has caused the main event of UFC Fight Night 220 to be scratched.
Light heavyweight Nikita Krylov is unable to compete against Ryan Spann in the scheduled main event at the UFC Apex due to an illness, according to an announcement on the ESPN+ broadcast.
According to UFC reporter Megan Olivi, Krylov (29-9 MMA, 10-7 UFC) arrived at the facilities early to receive fluids and treatment for a foodborne illness, but was determined to be unhealthy to fight.
As a result, Spann (21-7 MMA, 7-2 UFC) is left without an opponent, and the middleweight bout between Andre Muniz and Brenan Allen has been elevated to the new main event.
Spann was seeking his third-straight victory on the heels of two first-round finishes of Ion Cutelaba and Dominick Reyes. At media day, he revealed the UFC initially contacted him to be in the mix for the light heavyweight title, but the promotion went another direction.
Krylov was also looking for his third win in a row. Last year, he finished former title challenger Alexander Gustafsson in the first round, followed by a unanimous decision win over Volkan Oezdemir.
The late change will see Allen (20-5 MMA, 8-2 UFC) and Muniz (23-4 MMA, 5-0 UFC) compete in their first UFC main event.
