With last month’s NFL draft in the rearview, the Denver Broncos are gearing up for the start of OTAs this week.
The team’s top pick from the draft, though — Nik Bonitto — obviously remembers vividly what it was like when he got the call from Broncos general manager Geoge Paton last month. In fact, he painted the picture to media members at rookie minicamp.
“It was one of those things where you kind of know and you have a range of where you’ll be going in the draft,” Bonitto said last month. “It was getting to the point where I was past my range. I was on the fence with where I was going. I knew [Denver] was a place [I might land].
“I came here and it was special on my visit. I connected with the coaches and all the people upstairs really well. I had a feeling that when it got to Denver, they may select me. When I got that phone call — I told myself I wasn’t going to cry, but it all just came out. It was a really special moment.”
As aforementioned, OTAs begin this week. Looking ahead to the season, the Broncos opened as 3.5-point favorites against the Seattle Seahawks for their Week 1 tilt. Bonitto will aim to make a good first impression on NFL fans in his pro debut against Seattle.
