Nigeria Confirms First Bundibugyo Ebola Case as Outbreak Tops 9,700 Cases, While CDC Keeps U.S. Risk Low

Nigeria has confirmed its first case of Ebola caused by the Bundibugyo virus, in a woman in the capital, Abuja, who had recently traveled from Uganda. The World Health Organization said Africa's most populous country is the fifth to detect the virus since the outbreak was declared in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) in May. It is the outbreak's first case in West Africa.

The CDC's latest Ebola situation summary counts 9,735 confirmed cases and 4,690 confirmed deaths as of Oct. 21. No cases tied to this outbreak have been confirmed in the United States, and CDC still rates the risk to Americans as low.
