Nicole Kidman has opened up about the challenging year she experienced following her divorce from Keith Urban, revealing that she largely stepped back from the spotlight while navigating personal changes.
Months after the couple finalised their split, the 58-year-old actress spoke candidly about the past year during an interview with Variety, published on March 11. The conversation touched on her career, upcoming projects, and how she has been coping since the separation.
Kidman and Urban ended their marriage after nearly two decades together. The actress officially filed for divorce in September 2025, marking the end of one of Hollywood’s longest-running celebrity relationships.
While discussing her career with the outlet, the interviewer suggested that it often feels like every year belongs to Kidman because of her consistent presence in major film and television projects. The actress, however, quickly corrected that perception.

“Well, not last year. I was quiet. I had other things going on. I was in my shell.”
Kidman explained that the past year was a more private period for her, as she stepped away from the intense pace that has defined much of her career. Instead, she focused on personal matters and allowed herself time away from public attention.
Now, the actress says she feels ready to move forward and return to work with renewed energy. When asked whether she is prepared to step out of that quieter phase, Kidman responded enthusiastically about the year ahead.
“Now I’m in a place of saying, ‘2026. Here we go.’ I have Practical Magic with [Sandra Bullock]. I’ll be in full witch mode.”
Beyond her career plans, Kidman also addressed how she has been doing personally since the divorce. While she did not go into detail about the split itself, she emphasised that her focus remains on family and maintaining stability for her loved ones.

“What I’m grateful for is my family and keeping them as is and moving forward. That’s that,” Kidman added. “Everything else I don’t discuss out of respect. I’m staying in a place of, ‘We are a family,’ and that’s what we’ll continue to be. My beautiful girls, my darlings, who are suddenly women.”
Kidman and Urban share two daughters, Sunday Rose, 17, and Faith Margaret, 15. The actress described them as her priority as she adjusted to life after the separation.
Although the past year brought significant personal challenges, Kidman suggested she is focused on what lies ahead. With new projects lined up and a renewed outlook on life, the Oscar-winning actress appears ready to reenter the spotlight while keeping her family at the center of her world.
