Nick Cannon has given an update on how ex-wife Mariah Carey is coping following the deaths of her mother and sister last month.
The superstar announced on social media that her relatives had died just hours apart in a “tragic turn of events” on August 26.
Carey’s mother Patricia died aged 87, while her sister Alison was 63. No cause of death was shared, and the singer requested her privacy at the time.
Now Cannon - who was married to Carrey from 2008 until 2016 - has told Page Six: “She’s doing the best that she possibly can, considering the circumstances. But as a family, we just got to be there to support one another, show love.”
He went on to share that she has been spending a lot of time with the 13-year-old twins that they they share, Moroccan and Monroe.
He said: “She’s really having a great time with the kids. That is, you know, the most important thing in the world to her, so it’s outstanding to see them supporting their mum the way they do.”
Carey’s full statement about her family’s devastating loss read: “My heart is broken that I’ve lost my mother this past weekend. Sadly, in a tragic turn of events, my sister lost her life on the same day.
“I feel blessed that I was able to spend the last week with my mom before she passed. I appreciate everyone’s love and support and respect for my privacy during this impossible time.”
