Nick Cannon called his baby son Zen his ‘forever angel’ as he admitted he’s still grieving the painful loss of the five-month-old.
The 41-year-old shared Zen with his model ex-girlfriend Alyssa Scott, and in December, the former couple announced the tragic news that their baby boy had passed away after a battle with brain cancer.
In a sweet tribute on Instagram, Nick honoured his baby boy, and said his presence was still felt around him.
Sharing a picture of him sat with five of his children, including 10-year-old twins Moroccan and Monroe who he shares with ex-wife Mariah Carey, the former America’s Got Talent host posted quotes from the Bible as he expressed his sorrow.
“Still missing my little dude… His Spirit and brightness were soo strong #ZensLight,” he wrote.
“‘To be absent from the body, is to be present with the Lord’. 2Corinthians 5:8 The whole family, We ALL miss you young King! Forever Our Angel!” he added.
Nick is also father to seven-month-old twins Zion Mixolydian and Zillion Heir, with Abby De La Rosa, and daughter Powerful Queen, 1, and son Golden, 4, with ex-Brittany Bell.
He previously spoke about the heartbreaking conversation he had with his children, as he broke the devastating news of Zen’s passing.
He said it was “pretty intense”, but said because they were older, they were able to understand more about Zen’s death.
“But their understanding and them being there for me probably helped me keep it together as well as really deal with it. Specifically, even, Roc and Roe. They were there for the entire journey,” he told People, suggesting that his two eldest children were aware of Zen’s health struggles.
Nick revealed both he and Alyssa were with their son when he died on 5 December, and he said it was his daughter Roe who helped him to begin to process the loss of his baby boy.
“My daughter, really, she's so in tune and in line and wise beyond her years. I got a lot of therapists, but she's probably my best therapist,” he said, as he called the 10-year-old “so pure and so honest”.
Shortly after her son’s passing, Alyssa shared an emotional video montage of Zen, and said she’s enduring “painful reminders” of her baby’s death.
“Oh my sweet Zen. The soreness I felt in my arm from holding you is slowly fading away. It's a painful reminder that you are no longer here,” she wrote.
"I caught myself looking in the backseat as I was driving only to see the mirror no longer reflecting your perfect face back at me. When I close a door too loudly I hold my breath and wince knowing a soft cry will shortly follow. It doesn't come. The silence is deafening,” the model bravely shared.
