NHS Lanarkshire launches development programme to engage with small businesses

NHS Lanarkshire has partnered with the Supplier Development Programme (SDP) to engage with small businesses.

The health board has joined a recently announced partnership with NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) and the SDP to engage small businesses and ensure greater diversity in its supply chain.

Together, NHS Lanarkshire and NHSGGC cover the eight local authority areas in the Glasgow City Region and represents almost 40 per cent of Scotland’s total health board spend.

The work with the Supplier Development Programme aims to encourage a wider pool of suppliers, including more local SMEs, businesses led by, for, and with people with protected characteristics as defined by the Equalities Act Scotland & Fairer Scotland Duty to understand how to bid and work for both organisations.

NHS Lanarkshire and NHSGGC are also keen to encourage wider participation from all SMEs, and to further support small businesses understand the potential opportunities that are tendered by the NHS and their supply chains.

Businesses interested in supplying goods, works and services to NHS Lanarkshire and NHSGGC, particularly businesses owned or led by Black and Minority Ethnic individuals, women, LGBTQ+ individuals and disabled people, can register free for upcoming events at www.sdpscotland.co.uk.

Euan Erskine, NHS Lanarkshire procurement general manager said: “We are delighted to partner with NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde and the Supplier Development Programme for this project, which seeks to improve engagement with local businesses and support NHS Lanarkshire’s community wealth building aspirations across North and South Lanarkshire.”

Gillian Cameron, programme manager, Supplier Development Programme, added: “I am delighted that NHS Lanarkshire has joined with NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde to work with the Supplier Development Programme to encourage local businesses to raise awareness of how to tender with the NHS.

“The inclusion of NHS Lanarkshire means that this project now covers the full Greater Glasgow area, with SDP facilitating connection to all eight local authorities, promoting sustainable and inclusive communities and opportunities for all.”
