A virtual event will be held for Lanarkshire school pupils who aspire to join the healthcare field.

NextGen will offer a virtual insight to NHS Lanarkshire careers on March 30 between 4pm to 7pm.

The webinar will offer a fully interactive live chat with speakers and question and answer sessions, and there will also be interactive booths with downloadable resources.

The event is aimed at secondary pupils across North and South Lanarkshire, with adults looking for a change of career, parents and teachers welcome to join.

There are a range of career opportunities within the healthcare industry, including medicine, nursing, allied health professionals, pharmacy, psychology, optometry, business and administration, healthcare science and midwifery. The careers event will offer an insight into some of the professions.

The day will kick off with a webinar for those interested in a career in psychology. It will run from 4.15 to 4.45pm and this spotlight session will provide an insight into a career involving the mind. Psychological Services staff will be in attendance and will provide information on the career.

From 5pm to 5.30pm, a spotlight webinar on medicine careers will be held, where doctors and medical students will discuss real experiences and outline the many varied opportunities available in the field.

A Nursing and Midwifery session will be held from 5.45pm to 6.15pm and it will include representation from Community Nursing, Care Home Nursing, Mental Health and Learning Disability Nursing and Maternity and Neonatal and Transitional Care. The teams will discuss what a career in nursing or midwifery has to offer.

Finally, from 6.30pm to 7pm, a webinar on allied health professions and pharmacy will take place. Allied Health Professionals are a group in NHS Lanarkshire who support people of all ages to live healthy, active and independent lives. They include speech and language therapists, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, podiatrists, audiologists, orthotic services, radiographers, orthoptists, spiritual care and dieticians. This session will explain the importance of these roles and offer an insight along with information from professionals in pharmacy roles.
