Life after hockey doesn’t have to start after you hang up your skates. That’s what the National Hockey League Players’ Association looks to accomplish with their latest initiative, NHLPA UNLMT.
NHLPA UNLMT is an athlete development program centered around evolving players’ passions outside of the game of hockey and turning them into viable careers and life paths after their playing days have finished.
“It’s just such a great opportunity to grow as a person,” Winnipeg Jets forward Mark Scheifele said. “We’re all so young. I look at myself as an old guy now and I’m 30 years old, but there’s still so much of life, so much out there that we all can learn.”
The program, led by former NHL goaltender Rob Zepp as the NHLPA’s Director of Strategic Initiatives, seeks to help players grow and learn more about themselves and their interests outside of the sport, from business to beer making, music and more.
“There’s so many people out there that are pursuing their other passions,” Florida Panthers forward Kyle Okposo said, “And you can do it while you’re still playing the game.”
