NHL star Johnny Gaudreau, known for his show-stopping skills, was back in New Jersey this week to be a groomsman in his sister Katie's wedding. Tragically, the night before the wedding, Johnny and his brother Matthew, aged 31 and 29 respectively, were struck and killed by a suspected drunken driver while riding bicycles in the Delaware River area south of Philadelphia.

The close-knit Gaudreau family, including sister Kristen, was left devastated by the sudden loss. The siblings had shared many joyful moments together, from attending sports games to supporting each other's endeavors.

Johnny Gaudreau, affectionately called 'Johnny Hockey' by fans, had made a name for himself in the NHL with his exceptional skills. Despite his success in Calgary and Columbus, Gaudreau's heart remained tied to his South Jersey roots.

His decision to play for Columbus was influenced by his desire to prioritize family after his father's health scare in 2018. Gaudreau valued the balance between his career and personal life, choosing a quieter environment for his growing family.

Throughout his career, Gaudreau remained connected to his community, supporting youth hockey programs and charitable initiatives. His impact on the local hockey scene was profound, with organizations like the 43 Oak Foundation recognizing his contributions.

Despite the dreams of playing for his hometown teams, Gaudreau found solace in Columbus, where he could focus on his family without constant distractions. His commitment to giving back to the community and supporting educational initiatives showcased his dedication beyond the rink.

The tragic loss of Johnny and Matthew Gaudreau has left a void in the hearts of those who knew them. Their legacy as hockey players and community advocates will be remembered fondly by all who were touched by their kindness and generosity.

Our thoughts are with the Gaudreau family and all those mourning this heartbreaking loss.
