The Edmonton Oilers have joined a select group of NHL teams by fighting back from a 3-0 deficit in a best-of-seven series to force a Game 7. This marks the 10th time in NHL history that a team has accomplished this feat out of 211 opportunities, with the last instance occurring a decade ago. However, history shows that the momentum gained from three consecutive wins doesn't always guarantee success in the decisive seventh game.

Of the nine previous teams that managed to force a Game 7 after trailing 3-0 in the series, only four were able to complete the comeback and win the series. The Los Angeles Kings were the most recent team to achieve this in the 2014 first round against the San Jose Sharks.

Looking back at some of these remarkable comebacks, the 2014 Kings vs. Sharks series saw Los Angeles rally from a 1-0 deficit in Game 7 to secure a 5-1 victory and advance in the playoffs. In 2011, the Red Wings and Blackhawks both fell short in their Game 7 matchups despite forcing the deciding game after being down 3-0 in the series.

Only 4 out of 9 teams that forced Game 7 after 3-0 deficit won the series.

One of the most memorable comebacks dates back to 1942 when the Toronto Maple Leafs became the only team in major North American sports leagues to win a championship series after trailing 3-0. Their victory over the Detroit Red Wings in the Stanley Cup Final remains a historic moment in NHL history.

These instances of teams overcoming significant deficits in playoff series serve as a testament to the unpredictable and thrilling nature of NHL postseason action. While the Edmonton Oilers' achievement in forcing a Game 7 is commendable, the outcome of the final showdown remains uncertain, highlighting the excitement and drama that playoff hockey brings to fans around the world.
