HYDERABAD: In a far-reaching order that could help reduce flooding during monsoon across the city, the National Green Tribunal (NGT) has directed authorities to demolish scores of illegal structures that were built encroaching lake beds in Manikonda, Puppalguda and Neknampur.
With unauthorised buildings blocking water bodies in these areas, the NGT asked the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) and chief secretary Somesh Kumar to pull down all identified illegal structures. The tribunal was hearing a plea by Human Rights and Consumer Protection Cell Trust seeking demolition of illegal buildings on lake beds.
