Odell Beckham Jr was removed from an American Airlines flight on Sunday, as emergency responders feared for his safety as he appeared to be losing consciousness.
The free-agent was set to take off from Florida on a five-hour flight, but was removed after refusing to leave the aircraft. Beckham Jr was heading for Los Angeles, but flight crew grew concerned over his health.
Police confirmed that the crew tried to wake Beckham Jr and called the authorities when he became unresponsive. Beckham Jr initially refused to leave the plane upon becoming conscious once more, which led to officials deplaning the aircraft.
A statement from Miami-Dade Police read: "At approximately 9:30am officers from the Miami-Dade Police Deprartment were dispatched to a medial emergency at an American Airlines flight. The flight crew was concerned for a passenger (Odell Beckham Jr), as they tried to wake him to fasten his seatbelt.
"He appeared to be coming in and out of consciousness, prior to their departure, Fearing that Mr Beckham was seriously ill, and that his condition would worsen throughout the expected five-hour flight, the attendants called for police and fire rescue.
"Upon the officers arrival, the flight crew had asked Mr Beckham to exit the aircraft several times, which he refused. The aircraft was deplaned, at which time Mr Beckham was asked by officers to exit the plane, and did so without incident.
"Mr Beckham was escorted to a non-secure area of the terminal by the officers, where he made other arrangements." Beckham Jr took to Twitter to express his confusion for the entire incident, leaving fans initially confused.
"Never in my life have I experienced what just happened to me… I’ve seen it all," Beckham tweeted. "Never in my life. I could never make this up. Comedy hour," he continued in a series of tweets.
According to TMZ Sports, Beckham Jr remained quiet as he made his way through the airport, as the NFL star is easily identifiable. Nothing more came of the situation, and Beckham Jr hasn't tweeted since.
