The Jacksonville Jaguars sit atop the AFC South standings and would be in the playoffs if the season ended today.
Of course, it doesn’t end today, though. Not even close.
There’s still 16 more weeks of NFL action before the playoff start in January, more than enough time for early divisional leads to disappear and slow starters to surge back into contention.
But for now, the Jaguars are first place as they’re the only team in the AFC South with a win through the first two weeks. Following the Tennessee Titans’ 41-7 loss to the Buffalo Bills on Monday, the AFC South looks like this:
- Jacksonville Jaguars: 1-1 (1-0 in division)
- Houston Texans 0-1-1 (0-0-1 in division)
- Indianapolis Colts 0-1-1 (0-1-1 in division)
- Tennessee Titans 0-2 (0-0 in division)
Jacksonville currently sits third in the AFC playoff field behind the 2-0 Miami Dolphins (who win a tiebreaker with the Buffalo Bills) and 2-0 Kansas City Chiefs.
Maybe it won’t last long, or maybe it will. But for the time being, the rest of the AFC South are trying to catch up to the Jaguars.
