Fly Eagles, Fly. To the joy of presumably many 12’s, the Philadelphia Eagles have defeated the San Francisco 49ers to the tune of 31-7 to advance to Super Bowl LVII. It will be the fourth Super Bowl appearance for the Eagles, and the first since their lone win in Super Bowl LII.
Philadelphia started strong, 66 yards in 11 plays for an opening drive touchdown. As for the 49ers, the troubles started almost immediately. Six plays in, quarterback Brock Purdy fumbled the ball, and to add injury to insult, Purdy was hurt on the play. Purdy was immediately replaced by veteran journeyman Josh Johnson, who was ruled out in the 3rd quarter with a concussion leading to Purdy’s return. Philadelphia’s defense absolutely smothered the Niners. Blood was in the water, and they smelled it.
San Francisco has now lost consecutive NFC Championships, and are 2-4 in this game since the 2011 season.
The Eagles offense slowly wore down San Francisco. Jalen Hurts completed 15-of-25 passes for 121 yards, but the story was in the rushing attack. Philadelphia rushed for 148 yards as a team and four touchdowns on the ground.
Now the Eagles await the outcome of the Bengals and Chiefs game this afternoon to determine their Super Bowl opponent.
