It’s no secret that you need a good offensive line to win titles in the NFL. Ask Joe Burrow and the Bengals how their front-line situation worked out for them in Super Bowl 56.
Naturally, perhaps the most difficult offensive line position to play is offensive tackle. There are very few people in existence who can successfully pass-block 250-pound athletic freaks with lightning first steps while moving backward. It’s a position that comes at a premium, especially as teams throw the ball more and more, year after year.
One of the top tackles in this year’s draft is former Mississippi State brick wall, Charles Cross. Cross should figure to hear his name early on draft night in a loaded tackle class headlined by Evan Neal.
Oddsmakers with Tipico Sportsbook don’t expect Cross to make it far past the Giants at No. 7 overall. I agree.
Since the Giants have two top-seven picks, they can essentially approach the first round by getting their offensive foundation as they please. In one slot, they can pick their quarterback, like Malik Willis, while taking the arguable best pass protector in the class, Cross, in the other.
