Another day of comments mainly surrounding Rangers and Giovanni van Bronckhorst with angst simmering within the Ibrox support.
Wednesday's clash with Hearts is a massive game for the Light Blues against a backdrop of disappointment and upset after their weekend loss to St Johnstone. Van Bronckhorst has been getting plenty of flak, but he’s not the only one in the building who is in the firing line. Eddie Easson, Ballingry, said: “The Rangers support on here really needs to get a grip. It’s not GVB they should be hitting on. It’s the board and the recruitment department. GVB took them to a European final last year and that was the time to build. Instead, they brought in a raft of underachievers. The question is how tightly are Ross Wilson ’s hands tied behind his back. Their AGM will make for interesting viewing."
Rob McNab, Dunoon, added: “I’m not going to defend Gio as I think, regardless of that magic Europa League run, any Rangers manager would struggle to survive two heavy defeats from their rivals, losing the league and then the disastrous Champions League campaign.
“It is clear and obvious Gio has NOT been in charge of recruitment which has been appalling as has the patronising comments and feeble excuses from senior board members. Gio has made mistakes but he shouldn’t be the only one leaving. The set up above him is a joke and as amateurish as the team is currently playing. You get what you give.”
Stephen Mulhern, Dumbarton , said: “Van Bronckhorst mirrored the body language of Pedro Caixinha on the touchline at Perth on Sunday. And I’m not surprised to hear he’ll be given more time because any incoming manager would demand a war chest to turn things around so that rules out Steven Gerrard for a start.”
Allan Docherty, Glasgow, believes there are simple ways for Rangers to sort out their current problems as he looked back to past management styles. He said: “I’ve been saying for years to anybody who would listen, when Graeme Souness came to Rangers in the 1980s he fixed out a solid defence and built it from there. If you don’t lose a goal, you only need one to win the game.”
Neil Renton, Edinburgh, said: “I wonder if the real reason Olivia Attwood has left I’m A Celebrity is because she’s getting the job of managing Rangers. Having to watch the Ibrox side this season is as difficult to swallow as anything that’s on a Bushtucker Trial.”
Aberdeen are at Livingston tonight, but manager Jim Goodwin’s pre-match talk about the artificial surface was backed by Alan McPherson, Cullen Moray, who said: “My team’s manager now comes out criticising plastic pitches and the Celtic manager also has echoed this.
“I totally agree with them that they have no place in the top tier of Scottish football, but I fear that the chance to ban them has been lost following Kilmarnock’s return. Last season there was the required 11-1 majority for this change to be activated, but alas this didn’t come to pass.”
Goodwin also defender striker Duk, who was accused of taking a dive to win his team a penalty against Hibs. But John Scott, Grassmoor, said: “What a picture from Record Sport. Duk with his knee about to touch the ground, his arms held wide like a swan about to land on a lake.
“Yet with time frozen the image clearly shows that David Marshall has not yet made contact with the ball or the player. Jim Goodwin was correct to call out Ryan Porteous. Now Mr Goodwin, admit your man took a dive.”
