Newcastle want Spanish speaker in fast as club launch search for elite addition to help players

Newcastle United are leaving no stone unturned in a bid to ensure the players have 'every tool' they need to perform as the club search for a new bi-lingual manual therapist.

Newcastle already have a fluent Spanish speaker working in the medical department in first-team physiotherapist Daniel Marti and the Magpies now want a qualified practitioner with significant experience in elite professional sport in a soft tissue or medical role to 'optimise the performance of the playing squad'. He or she will work with the first-team squad, in general, but will have a particular focus on players such as Miguel Almiron and Javier Manquillo, whose first language is Spanish, while Bruno Guimaraes speaks a bit of the language, too.

Newcastle want the new recruit to assist the rehabilitation process for injured players to limit injury time and increase match day availability. The manual therapist will also deliver soft tissue treatment, including sports massage therapy and specialised active release technique, to both fit and injured players; cover games as required; and provide general translation services within the first-team environment.

The role was originally advertised before Bruno, Allan Saint-Maximin and Callum Wilson were all sidelined with hamstring issues. However, due to the urgency of filling the position, suitable candidates will be interviewed as and when they apply and it will be closed as soon as someone has been found.

Head of medical Paul Catterson previously told ChronicleLive he could now 'target the best in class' and this is the latest position Newcastle have recruited for in recent months. It certainly won't be the last.

"We need to produce a higher level of everything right across the board for the players," Eddie Howe told reporters back in April. "We need to give them every tool that they need to produce their best performances on a consistent basis so whatever area of the club that is, whether it is analysis, food or sleep, we need to try and educate the players as best we can.

"You will only do that with the best staff. I don't quite know what areas we will be looking to improve our product in but, certainly, that quest will never cease for me. It's always about trying to help the players in any way that we can."
