Newcastle United Women go top of the league to set-up thrilling final day

Newcastle United Women hit Bradford City for six on Sunday to climb to the summit of the WPL Division One North table ahead of the final fixture of the campaign.

Erin Nelson and Georgia Gibson both bagged braces, while Beth Guy and Millie Bell also registered their names on the scoresheet in a 6-0 rout at the University of Bradford Stadium.

The Magpies head into the final day level on points with second-place Durham Cestria but ahead of their title rivals on goal difference.

Newcastle have won three games on the spin - scoring 17 goals in the process - and can secure promotion to the WPL Premier Division when they travel to Barnsley on Sunday, May 7.

Durham Cestria travel to Chorley for their final fixture, but the Magpies will only need to match their result due to an 11-goal swing being required for the title to be decided on goal difference.
