Newcastle United striker close to sealing Hamilton Accies move

Hamilton Accies are close to securing a loan deal for Newcastle United striker Dylan Stephenson.

The New Douglas Park side have been working on bringing the 20-year-old to Scotland over the last couple of weeks and although a deal is not over the line yet, Accies are confident of Stephenson putting pen to paper in the next couple of days.

Stephenson was in attendance to watch Accies knock Ross County out of the Scottish Cup on penalties and has returned down south after meeting with Accies boss John Rankin yesterday.

He is expected back in Scotland tomorrow or Tuesday to complete his move north and join fellow Newcastle United youngster Lucas de Bolle, who joined in the summer on a season-long loan from the Magpies.

Lanarkshire Live Sport understands Stephenson is keen to join the club but a hamstring niggle has held up his switch from being completed earlier.

Following the win over Ross County, Rankin stated he was "quietly confident" of signing two players in the coming week to boost their Championship survival bid.

Accies have already added to their squad in the January window with the loan captures of Tom Sparrow from Stoke City and Dylan McGowan from Kilmarnock.
