Newcastle United project could be a 'really interesting' prospect for Christian Pulisic

Football analyst Alex Lalas believes Newcastle United's project under the new ownership could be a 'very interesting' prospect for Christian Pulisic. Pulisic has started both of Chelsea's opening Premier League matches on the bench and has fallen further down the pecking order at Stamford Bridge, with Manchester United said to also be interested in his signing.

The United States international has shown glimpses of his brilliance, such as his hat-trick against Burnley in October 2019 and his opener in the 2020 FA Cup final defeat against Arsenal, before his afternoon was ended prematurely due to injury.

His injury problems coupled with a lack of consistency has contributed to his struggles at Chelsea. Although Lalas believes Pulisic is happy in London, he does think the lure of Newcastle's long-term ambitions will be an exciting prospect for the 23-year-old.

"I think he has to look beyond the World Cup and he is happy by all accounts in where he is playing and more importantly where he is living," Lalas observed on his State of the Union Podcast.

"We concentrate so much on the 90 minutes and yes that is important because it ultimately dictates where he is going to live but that other 22 and a half hours, yes I think he's happy right now.

"I don't think it's necessarily that he wants to go, but if he is going to go, with what Newcastle is, and more importantly what Newcastle is aiming to be, I actually think that's a pretty good move.

"That would be really interesting to be involved in the rising of the once-great Newcastle. With incredible money and the new ownership.

"Is it an upgrade for Christian Pulisic? It's such a unique situation in Newcastle that if he's playing more consistently and getting starts which I think he would."

Chronicle Live reported on Tuesday that Chelsea are open to allowing Pulisic to leave Stamford Bridge before the end of the summer transfer window.

Newcastle have enquired over Pulisic's availability after Amanda Staveley and Mehrdad Ghodoussi visited Stamford Bridge to watch Chelsea's draw against Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.

Manchester United are also considering a loan move for Pulisic, while Atletico Madrid and Juventus have also made approaches.

Callum Hudson-Odoi and Conor Gallagher are also on the Magpies' radar, while Armando Broja is another Chelsea player who has been linked with a move to Tyneside.
