Neil Warnock has warned Newcastle United to avoid being 'silly' during the January transfer window amid reports that the Magpies are monitoring Cody Gakpo.
Gakpo scored three goals in five games as the Netherlands reached the quarter-final of the 2022 World Cup. His stellar form in Qatar consolidated a strong season which has seen him notch 13 goals and 17 assists in 24 games for PSV Eindhoven.
The 23-year-old has been subject to interest from Manchester United and Real Madrid among others, while the Magpies are also keeping a close eye on the attacker.
Warnock has been impressed by Newcastle's 'sensible' approach in the transfer market but suggests Eddie Howe should focus more on improving his squad.

"I just think they've done it the right way," Warnock revealed on talkSPORT. "They haven't gone stupid with money. I hope they don't spoil it now because they've been ever so sensible with what they've bought.
"They've got that team spirit. I mean Almiron, deary me! He's been a revelation. I just look at them and think, 'don't be silly in January, Eddie'. Just try and improve your squad a little bit for injuries."
