Newcastle United linked to Ibrahim Sangare again after release clause leaked

A release clause for Newcastle-linked Ibrahim Sangare has been leaked as he continues his battle to sign for a Premier League team. The 24-year-old Ivory Coast international currently plays for PSV Eindhoven as a defensive midfielder. However, he has publicly talked about his desire to play for a Premier League team.

The teams linked to him so far include Newcastle United, Chelsea, Manchester United and Liverpool. What might make their wheeling and dealing easier is that everyone now knows he has a £30m release clause.

Chronicle Live reported the player’s desire to play in the Premier League last month, when he said: “Playing in the Premier League is not only a dream of mine but a dream of every footballer. That is the biggest and most important league in the world.”

Clearly the hoped-for offers have not arrived yet and a little more nudging was needed. To move things along, according to Sky Sports this week, “a source close to” the player revealed he has a release clause of £30m in his contract.

That is useful information for sporting directors around Europe, who now know what it will take to pinch him off the Dutch side. Whether it will persuade any to stump up a fee that would put him among the most expensive transfers this summer, only time will tell.

What may take some of the risk out of any deal is the fact that he is very dependable in his recent career. Since signing from Toulouse in 2020, he has played 88 games for PSV and missed only a handful of matches missed through injury.

This season he made 49 appearances, grabbing three goals and two assists. His efforts helped PSV come second in the league and reach the quarter finals of the Europa Conference League.
