Alexander Isak to undergo a medical

Newcastle United's incoming Sweden star Alexander Isak is currently at the club's Benton base and looking to complete his big money move from Real Sociedad.

The striker will undergo the usual medical and formalities before being unveiled as the Magpies' record signing after a fee of around £58million was agreed between Newcastle and the La Liga club.

Isak is set to sign a long-term deal and should be available for the trip to Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Howe responds to Man United interest in Dubravka

Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe has insisted that Martin Dubravka missed the League Cup win at Tranmere due to an illness.

The Slovakia international goalkeeper was linked with Manchester United in the direct aftermath of the game after Karl Darlow deputised for Nick Pope at Prenton Park. Dubravka has been moved down the pecking order by Howe after the arrival of the England keeper.

But when asked if there was anything in the Man United links, Howe said: "He was feeling a little bit unwell. That’s it. In terms of anything (else) with Martin, I don't know about that."

Newcastle United made it through to the third round of the League Cup and now face Crystal Palace at home following the pitchside draw at Prenton Park.

Howe was delighted with a home tie with Newcastle's season alive in this competition until early November when the next stage takes place.

The Toon boss spoke of his dreams of leading Newcastle to a cup victory and being the first man since Joe Harvey to guide the Magpies to silverware.

And while previous bosses have played down the prospect of winning something - with some even fielding reserve sides in the League Cup - Howe is the opposite.
