Newcastle's historic Turkish Baths remain shut nine months after they were closed due to heating issue

Newcastle's Turkish Baths remain closed until further notice nine months after they shut due to problems with the heating system.

The historic facility inside the City Baths building on Northumberland Road is one of just 11 Turkish baths in operation in the UK, featuring treatment rooms, a dip-pool, and a sauna.

The Turkish Baths only reopened last year after undergoing a major transformation as part of a £7.5million revamp of the City Baths building, but were forced to close temporarily for nine months after being hit with heating issues.

Fusion Lifestyle, the charity behind the redevelopment of The City Baths, previously said the problems have been caused by a "technical fault" and it is working with contractors to resolve it as soon as possible.

Ben Dixon, associate director of operations at Fusion Lifestyle, said: “Over the winter months, we noticed a drop in temperature in our Turkish Baths and while we could continue to offer sessions at the baths, we’re committed to delivering the very best experience for our users."

Fusion Lifestyle have now moved to reassure people that they are working hard to resolve the issues affecting the Turkish Baths and they remain committed to reopening the facility.

Fusion Lifestyle said: “We want to reassure people that we’re committed to reopening the Turkish Baths as soon as possible and specialist contractors are working hard behind the scenes to resolve the issues so the facility can operate to the highest standards.

“In the meantime, visitors to The City Baths can enjoy the rest of our facilities as normal including our fitness suite and studios, swimming pool, poolside sauna and group exercise class programme.”
