Staff at an Indian restaurant on Newcastle's Quayside are celebrating for a second year in a row after scooping the Best in the North East prize at the British Curry Awards.
Khai Khai, which is tucked away on Queen Street, initially opened as a takeaway only in December 2020 due to Covid restrictions. But once it was able to welcome diners, it flourished.
The restaurant uses the 'smoke play' cooking method, an Indian tradition which requires a special oven known as a Josper. It cooks food over red-hot coals and burning wood.
