Newcastle fans react after protester ties himself to goalpost at Goodison Park

Newcastle United's second-half against Everton was delayed as a result of a fan protest. A member of the crowd attached himself to the goalpost with cable ties at Goodison park, resulting in a stop to proceedings.

Referee Craig Pawson stopped play for eight minutes as members of ground staff used bolt cutters to remove the fan from to goal. It's the second incident in a matter of days after Arsenal's game with Liverpool was briefly postponed.

The pitch invader at the Emirates was unable to attach himself to the post with handcuffs, unlike tonight's incident. Amazon Prime viewers were left shocked when the 'Stop oil' protester took to the pitch.

Once free he sprawled himself across the six-yard box and refused to move before finally being carried out of the ground by stewards. The incident sparked a second pitch invasion by a fan who scuffled with police officers before being whisked away past the Newcastle dugout.

Here's what Newcastle fans have to say about the incident:

@Mikerob66 tweeted: "That has to be the strangest thing I’ve seen during a football match. What did he hope to achieve?"

@Chris_H52 said: "Never seen owt like it."

@Toontastic tweeted: "Let's get a goal and get this ridiculous game out of the way now."

@Imwillis joked: "Always good to have someone on the near post."
