Newcastle United fans were left dismayed after Alex Iwobi's injury time winner for Everton. In a game that was lacking in quality, the Toffees grabbed a late winner to lift the hosts clear of the relegation zone.
As for Eddie Howe's side, they remain nine points clear of the relegation zone but have now suffered back to back defeats for the first time in 2022. Newcastle's nine game unbeaten run came to an end at Chelsea at the weekend and the Magpies failed to make any clear cut chances at Goodison Park this evening.
The most action the Everton goalmouth saw in the second-half, was when a 'Stop Oil' protester tied himself to the goalpost, causing a ten minute delay to proceedings. The game lacked any real flow and the Magpies were unable to take advantage of Allan's late sending off as the hosts snatched a late winner.
Newcastle now have a lengthy break, when they face Tottenham Hotspur on April. The international break will give Howe time with his squad to address their recent slump in form.
Here's what Newcastle fans had to say about the result on social media:
@LaneHusband1 said: "Dominated first-half, but we were shocking second. Credit to Lampard as he made changes to neutralise us. Didn't do enough to win it before the red and they fought for everything. We had our run but that's 2 defeats in a row and hopefully a wake up call. Work to do."
@EastoNUFC tweeted: "On the positive side. The break has come at the right time for us. We're 9 points clear of the drop and Callum Wilson is back in training."
@Andy_Hanson83 tweeted: "Good first half. Was still massively confident at half-time. Second half we never turned up. Poor for our new standards. Rest up, refresh, go again. In Howe we trust!"
