The New York Jets and linebacker C.J. Mosley have reached a new two-year contract agreement worth $17.25 million. This deal aims to provide the team with more flexibility in free agency by freeing up salary cap space. Under his previous contract, Mosley was set to earn a non-guaranteed $17 million in base pay for this season, with a cap hit of $21.5 million. The renegotiated contract will help the Jets by freeing up approximately $8 million in cap space while offering Mosley additional security and an extra year with the team.
The restructured deal includes $13.25 million in guarantees, with $9 million fully guaranteed for this season. Mosley, a key player for the Jets, has led the team in combined tackles for the past three seasons and has been a defensive captain, earning accolades such as being named a second-team All-Pro last season and making his fifth Pro Bowl appearance in 2022.
In addition to the agreement with Mosley, the Jets have also announced the re-signing of offensive lineman Jake Hanson. Hanson, a restricted free agent, played in seven games last season, including four starts at right guard, and will provide depth to the Jets' offensive line.
The Jets have been active in reshaping their roster, recently acquiring offensive tackle Morgan Moses from the Baltimore Ravens in a trade. As part of the deal, the Jets will receive Baltimore's fourth-round pick (No. 134 overall) in exchange for a fourth-round pick (No. 112) and a sixth-round pick.
Furthermore, former Ravens guard John Simpson has agreed to a two-year, $18 million deal to join the Jets, adding more depth to the team's offensive line. General manager Joe Douglas has been focusing on revamping the offensive line during the early stages of free agency to bolster the team's performance for the upcoming season.
C.J. Mosley, known for his consistent performance and leadership, has over 1,000 career tackles, 12 interceptions, 10 forced fumbles, and nine fumble recoveries. His presence on the field has been instrumental in the Jets' defense, and the team looks forward to his continued contributions in the seasons ahead.
With these recent moves, the New York Jets are positioning themselves for a competitive and successful future as they continue to strengthen their roster and make strategic decisions to enhance their performance on the field.
