Aaron Rodgers is still a Green Bay Packers player as his trade to the New York Jets is yet to be completed, but newly-signed Allen Lazard isn't concerned and expects his former team-mate to join him at the franchise.
After months of speculation over Rodgers' future in the NFL, a breakthrough happened as the quarterback claimed he was committed to play for the Jets. The Packers are also ready to move on and allow Jordan Love the chance to become their starting quarterback for the 2023 season, and it looked like everything was set to be completed.
But there's still no trade announcement, and some Jets fans are starting to worry that the deal that looked all but done could sensationally fall through. Lazard on the other hand isn't worried at all, and has calmed Jets fans in a recent interview.
While it was Rodgers that was heavily linked with a switch from the Packers to the Jets, it was his team-mate made the switch. After four seasons with the Packers, Lazard traded to the Jets to bolster their offensive options for the upcoming season.
Lazard is keen to link up with Rodgers again in New York, and after the Jets signed Mecole Hardman things are really looking up for the franchise. The Rodgers deal is still yet to be formally completed, but Lazard wasn't worried about the deal falling through when asked by TMZ.
"No, there is no worry on my end, especially knowing that Aaron has his full-on commitment to be a New York Jet this year," Lazard said. "Realising that it’s really just kind of on the guys upstairs to kind of handle the business side of things for this whole thing to go down.
"I think a lot of us are obviously eager for it to go through, I know I was especially last week. But the beauty is that we don’t play a game until September.
"We haven’t even started OTAs yet, so there’s no rush in getting this process done and everything. I know once it goes through and we’re able to get in the classroom together, we’re able to get on the field together, we’re going to start cooking up something special."
The deal is expected to go through, and the Jets will have the missing piece that let them down last season. Young quarterback Zach Wilson will also have the perfect mentor, after idolising Rodgers growing up.
