New York City to ban iconic horse-drawn carriages from June 1, 2028; decision comes after Indian tourist Romanch Mahajan's death

An Indian family's New York vacation turned into a nightmare on June 17, when 18-year-old Romanch Mahajan died after falling from a horse-drawn carriage in Central Park in an attempt to save his mother Priya Mahajan who fell from the carriage first. The carriage driver briefly stepped away to take a photograph when the family was inside the carriage. The horse suddenly bolted in the absence of the driver nd Romanch's mother fell. Romanch immediately jumped from the moving carriage and suffered a fatal head injury. He later died at New York-Presbyterian Weill Cornell Medical center.
