New SPFL board revealed as Rangers chief James Bisgrove elected

James Bisgrove has been elected to serve as part of the new SPFL board for the forthcoming season.

The Rangers chief executive joins six other club chiefs on the 2023/24 board which will operate alongside Neil Doncaster, Murdoch MacLennan and Karyn McCluskey.

Bisgrove appointment comes just days after the SPFL issued an apology to Rangers over the cinch dispute and committed to paying compensation to the Ibrox side.

The long-running dispute being resolved appears to have paved the way for Bisgrove to be appointed to work in the board set-up for this season.

Also representing the Premiership clubs will be Malcolm McPherson from Hibs and Ross County's James MacDonald.

Paul Hetherington from Airdrie joins Graeme Mathie from Ayr to represent Championship clubs with Forfar's Alistair Donald standing for League 1 and League 2 clubs with Montrose's Peter Davidson the alternate director.

Clubs have already agreed to unanimously approved two changes to SPFL rulings.

Firstly, it was agreed that all clubs should be required to have a Scottish FA bronze licence.

And secondly, a multi-ball system has been implemented that every Premiership club made use of the system in league matches with other clubs to notify their preferred system to the SPFL ahead of the season starting.

A statement read: "At the meeting clubs also voted unanimously to approve:

"a recommendation from the club licensing and membership criteria advisory group chaired by Iain McMenemy of Stenhousemuir that all SPFL clubs be required to have a bronze licence in terms of Scottish FA club licensing; and

"a recommendation from the competitions working group chaired by Steven Gunn of Aberdeen that cinch Premiership clubs be required to operate a multi-ball system in league matches and all other clubs be required to notify their preferred system to the SPFL in advance of the season starting."
