Americans born in 1960 or later must wait until 67 to claim their full Social Security retirement benefits. A new bill in Congress could allow some workers whose jobs take a heavy physical toll to receive them seven years earlier.
Representative Haley Stevens, a Michigan Democrat, announced the Blue Collar Social Security Fairness Act on 24 September. The proposal would allow qualifying Americans in physically demanding occupations to collect full Social Security retirement benefits from age 60.
