A 56-year-old photograph of King Charles as a teenager during his college years has been revealed before his coronation.
The snap of Charles for his entry at the University of Cambridge has been shared by Trinity College.
The black and white photo was taking in October 1967, when the King was aged 18 and studying at the establishment for three years.
About the size of a postage stamp, the portrait shows a youthful Charles in the college's 17th century Wren Library , with a note on it which reads: "Wales HRH, The Prince of."
The never seen before snap has been preserved in the Trinity College's historic archives since it was taken 56 years ago, the Telegraph reports.
Trinity Fellow Professor Adrian Poole, a contemporary of Charles, said: “For virtually all of us, it was our first time in the Wren Library.
“We were overawed and a bit intimidated. Were we in the right place? So many books. Busts of Cicero and Marcus Aurelius. A statue of Byron.
“A prince more or less scarcely seemed out of place.”
During his time at the college, Charles studied archaeology and anthropology in his first year and then spent his final two years studying.
He graduated in 1970, three years after joining, with a 2.2.
Matriculation marks a student’s entry into the university when they agree to observe the statutes and ordinances of the institution.
They are then admitted into their chosen college from the 29 Cambridge colleges taking undergraduate students.
As well as being photographed in a gown for the admissions record, Charles also signed the college’s admission book alongside his fellow students.
His name is noted as “Charles, Philip, Arthur, George Prince of Wales” with his father’s name “ Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh”, and residence simply “Buckingham Palace, London”.
King Charles and the Queen Consort were pictured at Buckingham Palace last month for their recently released pre-Coronation pictures.
Camilla gave a nod to the late Queen Elizabeth II as she wore pearl earrings, while Charles donned a blue suit as he prepares to be crowned next weekend.
