A new Aldi store has officially opened in Nottinghamshire as Paralympian Richard Whitehead cut the ribbon on the supermarket giant's newest location. Located on The Morado Way, Netherfield, the store was officially opened at 8am on Thursday, August 11, by the GB hero and residents from the local care home, Rivendell View.
Store manager Stuart Levick will be running the store along with a team of 38 colleagues from the community. After the ribbon cutting ceremony, Mr Whitehead gave away complimentary bags of fresh fruit and vegetables from Aldi’s famous Super 6 range to the first 30 customers in the queue.
He said: "I’ve had a fantastic time opening the new Aldi this morning. It was an honour to officially open the store and welcome customers inside for the first time."

To celebrate the partnership between Aldi and ParalympicsGB, the gold medallist from London 2012, Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020, will be focusing on the benefits of eating healthy food and the importance of exercise and believing in yourself. He will also talk to pupils about his experience of competing as a Paralympian and share his challenging training regime.
This includes an inspirational virtual assembly that Mr Whitehead is planning for pupils at Netherfield Primary School after the summer break. This is part of Aldi's Get Set to Eat Fresh initiative, which has already inspired more than two million school children to learn more about the benefits of cooking fresh, healthy food with their families.
He added: "I am looking forward to speaking with the children at Netherfield Primary School about the importance of eating healthily and how it can be fun to plan and prepare meals as a family. Hopefully, I will inspire the pupils to keep active and try different sports."
There are large chillers and freezers at the new store dedicated to fresh produce and British meat products. There is also a ‘Food to Go’ section at the front of the store and a section full of exclusive health and beauty products.
There will also be an 'Aisle of Aldi' where shoppers will find a variety of superbuys that are available every Thursday and Sunday. During opening week, there will be a range of tools and accessories on offer, including a 20v impact drill for £24.99, 40v cordless angle grinder for £29.99 and an Active Energy 20/40v Battery Charger for £14.99.
