New Netflix drama set to tell the story behind U2’s early years as a band

U2 fans are soon to be in for a treat.

A new Netflix TV series is set to tell the story behind how legendary Irish rock band U2 formed.

The drama, expected to be based on the Dublin band's early years together, is currently in the early stages of development.

The band is expected to be involved in the upcoming project and will allow Netflix to use some of U2’s iconic tracks, according to The Hollywood Reporter , who first reported the news.

U2 is made up of Bono on lead vocals and rhythm guitar, The Edge as lead guitarist, Adam Clayton on bass guitar and Larry Mullen on drums.

The band formed in 1976 when Larry Mullen, then a 14-year-old schoolboy at Mount Temple Comprehensive School in Dublin, put a note on the school's notice board in search of members for a new band.

Since they formed as teenagers 46 years ago, they have gone on to huge global success and released 14 studio albums, sold 170 million records and won a record 22 Grammy's.

Streaming giant Netflix has partnered with American filmmaker J.J. Abrams and his Bad Robot Productions banner to develop the series.

Oscar-nominated screenwriter Anthony McCarten, who wrote the 2018 music-themed biopic Bohemian Rhapsody focused on Queen frontman Freddie Mercury, has been lined up to write the show.

Details about the plot for the new series are being kept top secret and Netflix, Warners and Bad Robot all declined comment when approached.
