New laws in place to stop BBQs and fires on Merseyside beaches

New legislation has officially been introduced to part of the Merseyside coastline.

Sefton Council has confirmed that the coastal and visitor area public space protection order (PSPO) is now officially in place in parts of the borough. The PSPO has been put in place to protect the coastline and towns across Sefton, with activities covered by the new PSPO including littering and pollution, fires and BBQs, dog fouling, balloon or lantern releases, and anti-social behaviour.

If people fail to comply with the protection order they can receive a £75 fixed penalty notice. The order will be in place for three years, with it due to expire in the summer of 2025.
