A New Jersey man was arrested after calling 911 to report a non-emergency involving a scented candle that was lit indoors, according to a report.
Alfredo Gonzalez, 34, called the Guttenberg Police to complain about a neighbor who lit a candle inside their own home. His call escalated to falsely claiming his neighbor needed emergency medical services for a mental health evaluation.
When police arrived at the scene, it was revealed that Gonzalez had completely made up the need for emergency help, fabricating "mental health concerns to urge the response further," According to Fox News.
Gonzalez was then investigated for an alleged false public alarm and misuse of the 911 emergency line, prompting a warrant for his arrest. During their investigation, police noticed Gonzalez had continued to make "non-emergent" calls.
Gonzalez was taken into custody and was charged accordingly.
