
The housing crisis has been on a long, slow, burn for decades, and finally politicians of all flavours have woken up to the fact that where we live is an issue that really matters to voters. Housing is shaping up to be a key battleground in next year’s election.
One thing is certain: Britain, and London in particular, desperately needs its housebuilders to be busy. The Greater London Authority estimates that the capital requires about 66,000 extra homes every year to meet demand. In reality, the number being built is about 36,000.
