New footage of Anfield Road released as Liverpool confirm target for 'remarkable' redevelopment

Liverpool's expansion of the Anfield Road end is on course to be completed in time for the start of the 2023/24 Premier League season, the club has confirmed

The project, which is the third major building assignment of Fenway Sports Group's tenure on Merseyside after the Main Stand renovation in 2016 and the construction of the AXA Training Centre in 2020, will see Anfield add over 7,000 seats and take the stadium's overall capacity north of 61,000.

Recent drone footage, provided by Liverpool Football Club, shows the main framework of the Anfield Road Stand now complete, with the essential steel frame, columns and beams all added in recent weeks.

Since manager Jurgen Klopp provided the groundbreaking dig at the opening ceremony in the autumn of 2021, the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine, various storms, and Liverpool's on-field success had all threatened to delay the opening of the Anfield Road end later this year.

However, Liverpool's vice president of stadium operations Paul Cuttill has now confirmed the expansion is on course for completion ahead of next season's Premier League, which begins in August 2023.

“It’s hard to believe we’re this far into the project, the progress that’s been made is remarkable," said Cuttill. "Even more remarkable considering we’ve managed to keep on track and continued to maintain full capacity at Anfield, holding over 50 games so far and three concerts in a working building site.

“This new footage is a great insight and shows how the expansion is shaping up on the inside and helps to bring it more to life for fans. It’s now full steam ahead to be ready for the 2023-24 season. We can’t wait to have even more fans at Anfield, the atmosphere is going to be better than ever.”

The next phase of the redevelopment will stage the removal of the old roof at the end of the current season, after plans to do so during the Premier League's winter World Cup break were postponed.

The rapid progress means, should all go to plan between now and the end of the summer, Liverpool will be under no pressure to ask the Premier League to stage their opening fixtures of the 2023/24 season away from Anfield as was the case at the start of the 2016/17 season when they awaited the completion of the Main Stand project.
