A new food hall venue is all set to open on the site of Manchester’s old Natural History museum. The spot will open in the historic St George’s House on Museum Street later this year.
Called Exhibition, it will comprise three independent kitchens, two bars and an exhibition space, and had been conceived by the people behind the Haunt coffee shop and bar on Peter Street.
Sam Wheatley, who will be the venue’s operations manager, said: “We can’t wait to start welcoming people to Exhibition this Autumn, and hope to bring something different to Peter Street. It’s been a passion project for the whole team, and we can’t wait to see this incredible space brought back to life.
“Nurturing local businesses and artists is integral to Exhibition, and we’re so excited to share our venue with some of the most talented people from across the region.
The food operators are yet to be announced, but it will be a mix of small plates and larger sharing dishes, while the venue will be all about ‘global inspiration and local heart’, while the 400 capacity venue will play host to DJs and entertainment in the evenings.
There will also be seven dedicated areas around the venue that can be used as exhibition spaces.
The building itself, which is found between Peter Street and Albert Square, is Grade II listed, and sits on the site of the 1817 Peterloo Massacre, and is also where the ‘Manchester Mummy’, the preserved body of Hannah Beswick, was originally exhibited from 1828 onwards, where it was placed in the entrance hall.
