There's no shortage of places to eat and drink in Whitley Bay - many of which are independent.
And now visitors to the town have another choice with the opening of a new café. Meet Me on the Corner throws open its doors on Saturday April 30 on Ilfracombe Gardens and is the brainchild of local residents Kris and Laura Campbell.
Kris has worked at hotels and restaurants across the region over the last 20 years, while Laura runs her own baking business supplying gluten free cakes, brownies and flapjacks. The couple have combined their talents to create the menu, with highlights on the savoury side including a halloumi hash bowl, Korean steak and eggs, and fresh Scottish mussels.

Laura said: " I was diagnosed coeliac 3 years ago after having my daughter and really struggled to find places I could eat. This is why I started baking free from products, however I have lots of customers who aren't on any special diets you can't actually tell the difference!
"We look forward to welcoming customers with a range of diets, and none, to the café – the principle aim is simple – that you wouldn’t know the cake was gluten free!"
