New Edinburgh hub could contain street food market and sauna if plans go ahead

A huge new community arts space and an outdoor market could be constructed at part of Edinburgh’s waterfront if plans are given the go ahead.

Proposals have been submitted to the council to transform a former industrial unit in Granton into a brand new hub for locals that will include everything from food stalls to workshops.

Taken over by Edinburgh Palette, the local charity specialises in creating new hubs where artists can create their works, as well as making a social space for visitors to interact.

After success at a number of other Edinburgh locations, the organisation are now hoping to launch a similar project in Granton.

According to plans, the West Shore Road site would include a selection of external shipping containers, as well as a new studio space and a retail unit that would allow for local businesses to sell their products.

Hoping to cover all bases, plans also detail a large indoor and outdoor ‘street food experience’, with a neighbouring events space that could fit up to 500 people.

Apparently also planning on taking on ‘Finnish principles’, drawings also detail an outdoor sauna separate from the main building.

Hoping to have minimal impacts on noise and local residents, the events space and market would run between the hours of 10am and 10pm, with the site also hoping to sell alcohol to visitors.
