A new app dedicated exclusively to widows and widowers looking for ‘physical comfort’ is launching this June. WidowsFire, aims to be a discreet place for widows and widowers across the UK to meet like-minded people looking for non-committed physical fun.
Following the death of her husband in 2020, WidowsFire founder, Nicky Wake, struggled to navigate the world of mainstream dating apps and at the end of 2022, she launched the UK’s only dedicated app dedicated to widows and widowers with a community forum, dating and friendship platform Chapter 2
The app’s name stems from a term commonly used within the widow and widower’s community. “Widow’s fire” or “widower’s fire” is an intense desire for sex following the loss of a partner. Research from WidowFire’s sister app, Chapter 2 found that 3 in 5 (63%) widows and widowers experienced ‘widow’s fire’ following the death of their partner.
Nicky said: “I hope that the launch of WidowsFire offers solace and comfort to those experiencing physical urges after the death of their partner. After the launch of our dating and friendship platform, Chapter 2, I realised something was missing. After bereavement, many people aren’t ready to commit to a relationship with someone new but still crave the physical comfort and intimacy of having a partner and that’s where WidowsFire comes in.
“We want WidowsFire to be a fun and flirty, non-judgemental place for widows and widowers to safely and discreetly satisfy their physical needs with others like them on a no-strings-attached basis.
“I hope that it offers a first step for those looking to dip their toes back into the complicated world of dating without fully committing to something they might not yet be ready for."
