New clothes shop to open on busy Nottingham street known for its style

A new store is set to open in Nottingham city centre in the next few weeks on Middle Pavement, just off Bridlesmith Gate in an area known for it's fashion. Mint Duck will be opening its doors to the public from the end of August

The store will be located next door to Aveda and the construction company, James Allen Interiors has been working all week on getting the fixtures and fittings ready for opening. The store, which was previously a selfie location, has undergone a complete transformation to a much lighter and more welcoming shop.

Mint Duck will offer a range of premium clothing from established brands such as Lacoste and Gant. However, manager Jane Collingham who is based in Annesley is determined to have strong Nottingham representation by working with and stocking some of the best local brands.

"Mint Duck will be a premium men's and children's wear store selling Lacoste and Gant Clothing. We will also have some Nottingham independent shops in there too such as Sauce and Brown along with Leigh Wood's brand, Margatsni. We will stock both of Jesse Lingard's brands Be Yourself which is a premium streetwear brand and Jlingz which is for children," she said.

"As an independent, we chose the name based on the city and it helps to bring people into the store. It's very Nottingham and we have the freedom to do what we want with the store as independents. The idea going forward is that we want to work with the designers at Nottingham Trent University and possibly stock things from there. We want to champion all things from Nottingham and work with the local businesses here."

There are also plans to host VIP nights in the store which will be able to enjoy the refreshments on offer which include Monster energy drinks which will be on sale there. Customers will also have the option of playing a game of pool, or two, on the large white pool table which functions as a display stand during the day.

It comes amid a wave of new businesses opening in the area, a lot of which are independents including Stick and Ribbon and Barista Labs. There have also been a few closures in recent years such as and Juni Gin Lab which closed during Covid and most recently Paperchase.

As the area rebuilds, the clothing and sneaker brands choosing to establish themselves here are helping the area to reclaim its reputation for being a fashion hub once again. This will mark a welcome return to the city for luxury brand Lacoste who closed last year on Victoria Street as the brand will be stocked alongside other premium labels.

"The location drew us here as there are a lot of great brands here such as Hugo Boss and Flannels so this is the area of town we want to be in," Jane said.

Giving nothing away, the team is planning for a launch night party which may bring a few surprise guests into the city centre for the night. However, they also want to give back to the local community to mark their opening.

They will be launching a competition in collaboration with Jling children's streetwear brand to offer a local kid's team the chance to win a full kit. The competition will be launching on both brands' Instagram pages in the next few days and customers are encouraged to keep an eye out for details on how to get involved.

"We are collaborating with Jlingz where we are going to sponsor a local kid's team. Jlingz and Mint Duck will give a kit to a local team so if they visit our socials and then like or comment on our post, we will draw a name at random to give them a full kit. It will be supplied by us, free of charge to mark our opening," she said.
