A new Poundland store is opening in Perth on Saturday, November 5.
The finishing touches were being made to the new store at Unit 8A in St Catherine’s Retail Park this week with the doors to open at 9am.
At more than more than 8000 square feet, the store, just a few minutes’ walk from the city centre, will employ 17 full and part-time colleagues.
The new store complements the existing store in St Johns Shopping Centre.
It will offer everyday essentials such as groceries, drinks and snacks, as well as revamped health and beauty, entertainment, stationery and craft ranges, so “customers can do more of their shopping in one trip.”
Perth and North Perthshire MP, Pete Wishart, welcomed the filling of the unit.
He said: “The new Poundland store will be an excellent addition to St Catherine’s Retail Park and means that virtually all units in the premises are now filled.
“This will offer reassurance to locals who have become concerned about the future of Perth’s retail sector in the face of the cost-of-living crisis.
“I am equally glad to hear that this new store will complement the existing Poundland in St John’s Shopping Centre.
“While the retail park is a vital economic asset to Perth, it is just as important to continue supporting the High Street throughout the challenging months ahead.”
Poundland director of retail, Darren Kay, said Perth is a great location for the company.
He added: “The new store has been designed to show off Poundland at its best and like all our stores it will offer amazing value to help our customers as their household budgets feel the squeeze.”
The store will also include a section dedicated to Poundland’s PEP&CO clothing for the whole family.
As well as womenswear, menswear and kidswear, it will offer the latest PEP&CO Home ranges including kitchen storage options, faux plants, bathroom accessories and soft furnishings.
And it will join the growing number of Poundland stores, set to pass 350 this year, to sell chilled and frozen food, powered by Fultons, the Barnsley-based frozen food specialist acquired in 2020.
The St Catherine’s Retail Park arrival is one of up to 25 new stores and relocations planned between August and the end of the year, including recent openings at Inverness, Aberdeen, Sheffield Meadowhall Retail Park, Canterbury, Milton Keynes and Broadstairs.
