The US Food and Drug Administration has approved a blood test that can identify pregnant women at risk of developing high blood pressure, the NYTimes reported. This condition, called as pre-eclampsia, is one of the leading causes of death among women. "The new test may offer an early warning, identifying which of the many pregnant women who have suggestive symptoms will go on to develop the life-threatening disease within the next two weeks," the media reported.
This new blood test, which is said to have 96% accuracy, is made by Thermo Fisher Scientific and is already available in Europe. It is meant for women in the 23rd to 35th week of gestation who get hospitalized for blood pressure.
