New art exhibitions opening in Edinburgh from William Morris to Carol Nunan

The beginning of a new month is an excellent opportunity to plan your cultural entertainment for the next several weeks. Fortunately, with all Edinburgh's numerous venues, the question won't be 'where to go?', but rather 'how to find time for everything the capital has on offer?'

The Art of Wallpaper - Morris & Co.

Anything can turn into true art in creative hands, and wallpaper is not an exception. Explore the legacy of one of the world's most famous pattern designers - as well as a poet and craftsman - William Morris, in an exhibition that brings visitors back to the 19th and 20th centuries. The exhibition, showcasing framed original samples, will see some of the patterns featured in the UK for the first time.

Under Celestial Sky

Mysterious and hypnotising, the art of Carol Nunan is inspired by the wast, rich and wild landscapes of Scotland. Born into a family of artists, Carol presents a fine collection of collagraph plates and monoprints in her new exhibition titled 'Under Celestial Sky'.

The works that are on display at the Birch Tree Gallery showcase wildland and seascapes and have a spellbinding effect to them.

Audubon's Birds of America

A story of one of the world's rarest and most desired books is revealed in a new exhibition. Birds of America is a book by naturalist and self-trained artist John James Audubon, who set himself an ambitious goal of listing all the bird species in North America. The book featured 435 life-size, hand-coloured prints of birds.

The extraordinary one-meter tall book will be on display alongside many original prints unfolding the creation story of the literary and naturalistic masterpiece and Edinburgh's part in it.

Our Voices Exhibition and Workshop

This is a deeply personal and intimate exhibition showcasing the healing journey of five women of colour who experienced racism. With the use of strong visuals as well as audio narrative to enhance the storytelling, photographer Nikki Kilburn creates a robust exhibition touching on a sensitive social issue while celebrating the power of women.

As part of the event, there will be a related workshop on February 19, where women of colour and female allies could explore and express their thought and feelings on the subject of racism in a guided meditative art flow.
