Never-before-seen photos show how Glasgow marked Queen's Golden Jubilee in 2002

A never-before-seen set images showing Glaswegians celebrating the Queen’s Golden Jubilee 20 years ago have been published in a new book.

Jeremy Sutton-Hibbert - Queen’s Golden Jubilee Scotland 2002 takes a candid look at how the nation went about marking the royal milestone.

Featuring faces and places from Glasgow, Coatbridge, Glenfarg and Perthshire, the book records the efforts that ordinary working folk made to toast Her Majesty’s 50th year on the throne.

In one photograph we can see union flag bunting going up at the Lord of the Isles pub in Bridgeton, while at Temple schoolchildren are holding a special Jubilee fete.

Not everyone is joining in the Jubilee celebrations of course. For the purpose of balance, the photographer has included a shot of the Citizens Not Subjects demonstration which paraded at Glasgow Green.

The book is just one of more than 500 books in the Café Royal Books series, which promotes the work of British documentary photographers.

Jeremy Sutton-HIbbert studied photography at the Glasgow College of Building and Printing and later travelled the world, carving a name for himself as a top photojournalist. It is the first time that his Golden Jubilee photographs have been made publicly available.

In 2002, as part of Her Majesty’s Golden Jubilee celebrations, The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh embarked on a tour of the UK.

Hundreds of people lined the streets to witness the royal couple arriving in Glasgow to kick-off the Scottish leg of their tour on May 23, 2002.

The tour began with a thanksgiving service at Glasgow Cathedral, before the Queen and Duke headed east to open the Falkirk Wheel.

This week, we have seen a repeat of the 2002 scenes, as the nation celebrates the Queen's Platinum Jubilee to mark 70 years on the throne.
